1920's Glamour

Valentin Yudashkin
Daisy Buchanan- The Great Gatsby

Vera Wang
Jenny Packham

'I wanted to shower women with constellations. Stars, stars of all sizes!'
spoke Coco Chanel over a half-century ago.

This season her words reign over the fashion world with the catwalk showered with beautiful dresses inspired by the 1920's and Chanel's earliest designs. Dazzling, glimmering dresses, covered in sequins and jewels shot across the catwalks of Valentin Yudashkin and Vera Wang like meteorites, while the Lanvin, Prada and Miu Miu catwalks were a haven of fur collars and 1920's-style coats. With 'The Great Gatsby' due (finally!) to be released in less than a month (the 16th of May in the UK) Miuccia Prada has returned to the roaring twenties for a timeless approach on classic 1920's glamour. Her costume design for 'The Great Gatsby' has already received attention in the media, and one can already predict 'Gatsby''s Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design. Fashion this season takes a trip back to the 1920's, with flapper dresses surging in popularity and becoming one of the most popular styles of evening dress of the season. Christmas may be over, but 1920's glamour returns in the form of perfectly tailored skirt suits and fur-collared jackets. As the 1920's is my favourite decade for fashion, I will definitely be stocking up my wardrobe with high street alternatives of this look, most likely with one of Joy's gorgeous flapper dresses.
